Somthing that is very impotant for this project is the research i am conducting at the moment, and for me, at pressent a process of 'crawling' the web
finding pages and sites and web-art objects that enable me, somehow to place my work within the context of Web art in general. I will be assembling all of those links here soon, but in this entry, as well as talking breifly about the process and reasons for this desire to locate my work, i want to present
"99ROOMS" which is a project i foud while trying to narrow this 'wider context' into finding a project similar to my 'Rooms'
This project is different from mine in that alot more photograhic work is used, but the simalarities are there, too. users navigate in a very similar way, opening doors with the click of a button to advance to the room on the other side.
it seems the task my work can form that will be significantly different from thsi wil eb to combine the 'virtual bulinding' enviroment with the popular
'virtual gallrey' .
My work will enble users to navigate the rooms and discover embedded art objects, with the possibility of them being seperate to the room, as well as being an integral part of it. I think the major advantage of my piece will be the versitility and variety of each room- I will be able to create art-objects that are static(in the sense that they do not move from thhier position on the screen) and viewable with or without the room that just sit on the back wall, as well as objects that will be an integral part of the room, created for the room(or the room created around the object) These objects will interact with the room directly.
I feel it is important to locate the work among internet art and even internet sites as a whole because it is important for me to realise that the context of the internet is very different from more conventional presention contexts such as galleries and books, even different from Media such asTv, video or Raido.
The internet exists on both a physical end-level with users sat at a computer but at a 'meta-physical' level, too- an intracte network of wires and satalittes and machines and servers and ISPs and ISP workers.- a network of billions of physical parts. The internet also has a unique quality in being interactive, and to an extent yet unrealised by digital television.
users can directly influence, in real time, internet pages and sites and everone can instanly add themselves to the huge 'web' of pages and sites. I would be interested to know how many new pages are crated everyday.. worth finding out...
But in this unique, constanly expanding world, things are different. Vision, sound, text, time, duration and interaction and many things that can only exist TOGETHER on the internet allow both users and creators to jump into a 'new dimension' where space can be infinate, time can be stretched, sound nd vision can collide and input can truly exist.
